Three Tipperary GAA players amongst 80 athletes to receive full UCC scholarships

Three Tipperary GAA stars of the present and future have received full sporting scholarships to attend University College Cork.

Riain Qiugley of Moyle Rovers, Sean O'Connor of Clonmel Commercials, and Darragh Stakelum of Thurles Sarsfields are three of the over 80 Irish sports stars of tomorrow from across 12 counties who have had their talent and hard work recognised with UCC Sports Scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Quigley and O'Connor are current members of the Tipperary senior football panel, while Darragh Stakelum is a hurler with huge potential, having captained the Tipperary U20 hurlers in last year's Munster championship campaign which ended in a final defeat to Limerick.

Speaking at the announcement last Monday, UCC President John O’Halloran said, “UCC values and recognises our outstanding student athletes and the major contribution they make to themselves, sports, their communities, families and schools."
