Inspirational nun to host fund-raising evening in Tullamore this Friday

Sr Rose appeals for funds for medical and relief work in Kenya
AN inspirational nun will host a fund-raising event in the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore on this Friday evening at 7pm to highlight her work in medical care and development in a deprived area of her native Kenya.
Sr Rose Vicky – a member of the Little Sisters of St Francis congregation – will give a talk on her work and a video will also be played. Light refreshments will be served.
Sr Rose overcame major obstacles in her life, including famine and violent conflict, to provide medical care and development opportunities for the poor in her own area in Kenya.
As a young student she was encouraged and sponsored by her local parish priest, Fr John Jones, now based in Mullingar.
Fr John heard that young Rose was an exceptional primary student but would never have the opportunity to benefit from secondary school education.
He sponsored her tuition and found a place for her in an all girls secondary school 60 miles from her home area.
School discipline was strict but Rose had a hard upbringing and she thrived in the learning environment.
Throughout her school years she continued her old regime when at home during the holidays, fetching water, gathering firewood and looking after the little ones.
She passed her General Certificate of Education with honours and had the whole world at her feet.
But Rose decided to devote her life to God and entered the novitiate of the Little Sisters of St Francis and was professed in 1987.
Since then she has developed a thriving and sustainable farm, a medical centre and other development works in Kenya catering for the poorest of the poor.
All are welcome to attend the event this Friday in the Bridge House Hotel which is being facilitated by Pat Clare, a man with Offaly connections who has travelled to Kenya to see Sr Rose's work at first hand.
Pat can be contacted at 085 2805138.
