Stephen Fry celebrates ’10 happy years’ of marriage to comedian Elliott Spencer

Sir Stephen Fry has celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary with comedian Elliott Spencer, saying he is a “lucky man”.

The 67-year-old actor and TV presenter married Spencer, 37, in 2015 in a ceremony at a registry office in Dereham, Norfolk, close to where he grew up in the village of Booton.

In an Instagram post marking the anniversary, Sir Stephen said: “Ten happy years to the day since we were joined in marriage. I’m a lucky man.”

Following the post, stars including TV presenter Jonathan Ross, actress Anna Friel and The Kumars actor Sanjeev Bhaskar wished him well.

In a comment on the post, Ross said: “Ten years, how time flies. Congratulations and love to you both.”

Bhaskar said: “Happy anniversary you right pair.”

Friel added: “Happy, happy anniversary.”

During an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs shortly after his marriage, which he said he was “adoring”, Sir Stephen discussed potentially having a child with his partner, but is yet to have one.

Speaking about potentially having a child, he said: “We sort of talk about it and I suddenly think, ‘oh my goodness I’m such an age now’, but actually that’s rather good, but we better get on with it if we do.”

On the show, he dedicated Ella Fitzgerald’s Do I Love You? to Spencer, describing him as the “great love of my life”.

Sir Stephen was recently knighted in the New Year Honours for his services to mental health awareness, the environment and charity, telling the PA news agency he was “startled and enchanted” after receiving the letter informing him of the knighthood.

The star is best known for playing Melchett in 1990s BBC sitcom Blackadder and his time presenting comedy panel show QI from 2003 until 2016, when Danish-British broadcaster Sandi Toksvig took over the role.
