Man charged with murdering mother-of-two Amy Doherty

A man has been charged with murdering mother-of-two Amy Doherty in Londonderry.

The 30-year-old has been charged with murder, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possession of a class A controlled drug.

He is due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates’ Court via videolink later on Friday.

Police launched a murder investigation after officers were called to a property in the Summer Meadows Mews area of Derry on Saturday and found 28-year-old Ms Doherty badly injured.

She was taken to hospital where she later died.

Ms Doherty’s funeral took place on Thursday.

A vigil in her memory will take place later on Friday in Derry.
