Homes in Waterford remain without power until Friday afternoon

A number of Waterford homes remain without electricity into Friday afternoon following strong overnight winds.

The conditions left thousands of houses without power across the country on Friday morning following the heavy winds overnight.

Kilmacthomas in Waterford was affected by the power cuts with 13 households not expected to be reconnected to power until 4pm in the afternoon.

ESB Networks apologised for the loss of supply. They say they are currently working to repair a fault affecting the properties and will restore power as quickly as possible.

A fault affecting a further 28 customers in the Kilmacthomas area from 3.25 am on Friday morning was resolved by 9.35am.

A Status Yellow warning was in place for the whole country until 2am this morning.

A number of power outages were experienced including Tinahask in Co Wicklow which affected 1,713 ESB customers. Power was due to be restored there at 9:45.

ESB has warned that “fallen electricity wires are live and dangerous. Never approach or touch them. Call our emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 (+353 21 2382410), 999 or 112.”

An outage only appears on the ESB website when it affects more than 10 properties. Customers are advised to report faults if they do not appear on the site.
