What's on in Waterford's Theatre Royal this weekend?
‘100% Waterford’ – a night of original music from three of Waterford’s emerging artists, takes place at Theatre Royal Waterford this Saturday night (25th March)
Presented by Live@TheRoyal, the night will feature deafMONKEY, Birds of Burden and Tadhg Williams & the Friday Night Choir in a triple headline gig.
deafMONKEY left their mark on 2022 with the release of a debut EP “Live From An Empty Room” and standalone single “Lost In Space” (available on Spotify). Best described as guitar-based indie rock with the odd slice of pop, they have been steadily building a reputation for their high energy, powerful live performances, with sold-out gigs in both Geoff’s and Backstage@TheRoyal.
Birds of Burden produce a blend of hard, driving rock and hypnotic meandering airs to frame an almost diary-like lyrical intimacy, firmly rooted in the folk ballad tradition. The band itself, formed around the song writing partnership of Eoin Dalton (Hollerin’ Pine) and Joe Meagher (El Hígado No Existé), is completed by Éadaoin Breathnach (Artistic and Musical Director of Rigout Productions), Heather Troy-Whelan (Mufasa, Broken, Found on the Floor) and Paul McDonald (Blindsite).
Tadhg Williams is a songwriter and poet originally from Waterford, now based in Dublin. His music has become known for its lyricism and heart-on-sleeve melodies, endearing him to an already significant fanbase, earning praise from the likes of Declan O’Rourke, David Keenan and Stephen James Smith. Having supported acts in the past such as Glen Hansard, The Stunning, Niamh Regan and Rozi Plain, Williams has noted himself as a consummate live performer.
Tickets are €16.50 each or 2 for €25, available at www.theatreroyal.ie or 051 874402.
