Blues striker Ronan Coughlan has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for April.

Coughlan, who netted 11 goals in the First Division during April, has impressed for the club side since his arrival at the start of the year - scoring 15 goals in the 2023 league campaign to date.

The Limerick native found the net four times against Athlone Town last month before hitting a hat-trick against Treaty United a few days later.

Speaking to Waterford's club website after receiving his award, Coughlan remarked: "It’s great. I was nominated in the past when I was playing in the Premier, Division, I think I was runner-up. That was the closest I ever got.

"I probably wouldn’t have thought I’d have won it playing in the First Division but I’m delighted to have won it. It was a great month for myself."

He added: "We had five games in the month and I scored 11 goals. I don’t think I ever dreamed of something like that to be honest. We won all five games so it was a great month for myself but also for the team."

Keith Long's side sit in second on the First Division table, ten points adrift of table-toppers Galway United.
