Low cloud will burn off this morning to leave good sunny spells, although there will be a scattering of showers throughout the day also, Met Éireann forecasts.

While not as widespread or as heavy as recent days, they will be heaviest and most frequent across Ulster and coastal counties in the east this afternoon, where an isolated thunderstorm can't be ruled out.

Rain will be heaviest in Waterford in the afternoon, from 1pm until after 4pm.

Highest temperatures will range from 16 degrees in the northwest to 20 degrees in the southeast, however, moderate to occasionally fresh westerly winds will take the edge off the highs. More persistent rain will extend into the west through the evening.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 20C in Waterford at 5pm, but will drop back to 12C overnight.

onight the showery outbreaks of rain in the west will extend eastwards across the country, becoming more showery as it does so. It will be a mild night in many areas with temperatures not falling below 9 to 13 degrees in light west to southwest breezes.

Most areas will be drier with long sunny periods tomorrow, although a few showers will pop up again mostly over Ulster and may turn briefly heavy locally. In fresh west to northwest winds highs will reach just 15 to 19 degrees, though winds will ease in the evening.
