Waterford Iceland staff occupy store in response to sudden closure

Staff at an Iceland store in Waterford City have occupied the site in response to the sudden closure of their workplace.

According to Waterford Council of Trade Unions, SIPTU members are occupying the store on Cork Road after being given just 30 minutes notice before the doors closed yesterday (August 23).

They are allegedly owed wages and holiday pay, with many staff having served over a number of years.

People in the locality are encouraged to drop down to the store to show solidarity with the workers.

According to a video taken at the scene by WLR FM, four staff members slept in the store overnight with the sit-in set to continue "for as long as it takes".

SIPTU has not yet released a statement regarding the action.
