Waterford priest seeks planning permission for urn display at popular cemetery

A Waterford priest is seeking planning permission for a columbarium area at a popular cemetery.

Father Liam Power submitted the planning application to Waterford City and County Council on behalf of the Parish of St. Joseph, St. Benildus and St. Mary’s.

If granted, the proposed columbarium will be located in the existing cemetery at St Mary's Church in Knockboy, Ballygunner.

A columbarium is described as a structure used to store and display urns containing cremated remains; it is typically a wall, room, or building that can be indoors or outdoors.

A decision is expected in February 2024.
