Planning permission for the construction of dozens of apartments for students near South East Technological University (SETU) has been granted by Waterford City and County Council.
The council greenlit the planning application - submitted by Noel Frisby Construction Ltd - this week (April 24) following two months of deliberations.
The development will consist of the construction of 85 student accommodation apartments (ranging in size from 5-bed to 8-bed apartments), comprising a total of 582 bed spaces in four blocks ranging in height from 4-6 storeys.
The development also includes student amenity facilities including a retail/café unit, communal areas, laundry room, reception, student and staff facilities, storage, an ESB substation/switch room, bin and general stores and plant rooms.
Landscaping and amenity areas including a central courtyard space and public realm/plaza have also been approved, as well as a set down area, vehicular access point onto Ballybeg Drive, car and bicycle parking, footpaths, signage, boundary treatment, pedestrian and cycle improvements to Lacken Road (including a pedestrian crossing) and all ancillary developments.
Permission was granted with a total of 27 conditions.
