Waterford gardai set to mark Go Purple Day 2024

Gardai across Waterford city and county will participate in a number of events and activities this Friday to mark Go Purple Day 2024

Gardai across Waterford city and county will participate in a number of events and activities this Friday to mark Go Purple Day 2024.

Go Purple Day is about raising awareness of Domestic Abuse and the supports and services that are available to persons affected by it.

"An Garda Siochana in Waterford are aware that it's not just one day that Domestic Violence affects people. We are here 24/7 and only a phone call away. Please know we are here to help and support you," said a spokesperson.

To show their support for the initiative, all working members will be supplied with purple pins on their uniform while other events include:

*A coffee morning with local DV services will be held at Waterford Garda station at 11 a.m. with purple buns/snack

*An information stand will be set up at City Square shopping centre, Waterford City and Lisduggan shopping centre

*An information stand will be set up at Dungarvan shopping centre

*An information stand will be set up in Mooncoin Village

A photo shoot with locals on the prom in Tramore  - supporting the An Garda Síochána Go Purple Day

In addition, gardai attached to community policing units will be liaising with local sports clubs while members will also be visiting hairdressers, beauticians and chemists in Waterford city distributing leaflets and pin

The City Square shopping centre has also agreed to light up the shopping centre in purple following a request from the community policing unit.

A variety of events, organised by other agencies, companies and organisations will also take place across Waterford to mark Go Purple Day 2024.
