Music galore for Comeraghs Wild Festival's 10th birthday celebrations kicking off this weekend

Curraghmore House in Portlaw will be the venue for an open air concert staring the High Kings during the Comeragh Wilds Festival in July

The Comeraghs Wild Festival will mark its 10th birthday with a host of artists performing across the two weekends this month, kicking off this very weekend.

Country Gold is a band specially put together for the festival and the renowned act, which includes Gerry Walsh, opens for Ceol and The High Kings on Saturday, July 6, at Curraghmore Estate for an unmissable evening in the open air.

Moylan Brunnock is also back by popular demand. She is the opening act for what promises to be a truly remarkable concert in Clonea Power Church on Friday, July 12, featuring Lisa Hannigan, Gemma Hayes and Paul Noonan. Tickets for that are already almost sold out. For your comfort, it is advised to bring your own cushion for this event.

Ballymacarbry is definitely the place to be Fentons Rebel, Roots and Bluegrass Bash at Fentons Field, Ballymacarbry from 4pm the following day.

The open-air, riverside event on Saturday 13th features Mad Mike and local bands Cedartowns, Rising Tide and Jack Colbert. It’s a new addition to the Comeraghs Wild programme and really set to go down a hit. Those attending are invited to bring along a fold up chair or a blanket and make a day of it.

There will also be live music, singing, dancing, storytelling and more at the Go Wild at The Getaway event at the Getaway Eco Camp in Dungarvan from 3pm on Saturday 13th as festival revellers gather for an open session in this stunning venue where local performers share the stage with anyone who wishes to join in.

The music and the fun continue that evening in Rathgormack for Dance neath the Comeraghs at the Hiking Centre, starting from 7.30pm. It will feature a host of local musicians and set dancing will be in the open air. The Coach House in Kilmacthomas is the place to be at 3pm on the Sunday afternoon for a free performance from the Comeraghs to the Coast choir.

Moylan Brunnock will also be back for a second event on Sunday afternoon to provide musical accompaniment for the Feast in the Forest in Crough Wood under a specially-constructed marquee.

Speaking ahead of their concert at Curraghmore, renowned local man and showband singer, Gerry Walsh from Country Gold said: “We’re looking forward to a great evening in Curraghmore. We’ve put together a six-piece band and will be starting out on a Charlie Pride Tribute circuit after the Comeraghs Wild concert.

“We’ll be doing a mix for all ages for the hour we’re on at Curraghmore. We’ve steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, a drummer and guitarist so have a great mix. We’re rehearsing away and I’m looking forward to a great evening on stage with Stephen Travers, Tony Ford, Ger Cornally, John O’Keeffe and Mo Connors.”
