Waterford boxing coach celebrates as Kellie Harrington achieves historic win

A boxing coach from Waterford is celebrating after she and Team Ireland coaches watched Kellie Harrington achieve her historic win.

Harrington struck gold at the Olympics once again, becoming the first Irish boxer to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals.

Waterford's own Lynne McEnery was ringside to cheer her on alongside the rest of Harrignton's dedicated coaching team when she beat China's Wenlu Yang in a split decision.

Harrington was joined by club coach, Noel Burke of St Mary's BC, and HP Team Ireland coaches, Zauri Antia, Damian Kennedy, James Doyle and McEnery.

McEnery is the first Irish female boxing coach to go to the Olympics and is a proud member of St Paul's Boxing Club.

A former elite international boxer in her own right, McEnery contested for club and country at two Women’s European Championships (Netherlands 2011 and Hungary 2013).
