Tributes pour in following sad passing of 'remarkable' woman from Waterford

Tributes have been paid following the sad passing of Kitty Cullinan (née Tobin), late of Bleantis, Ballinamult, Co. Waterford.

Kitty passed away on August 19, 2024, peacefully, and in the tender care of staff at the Slievenamon Unit, Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Tommy, her daughter Ellen Skehan, son-in-law John Skehan, her darling granddaughter Fei Sheehy, her sisters Maureen Coffey, Algie Power and brother Paddy Tobin.

Kitty will be sadly missed by her family; sons Jim and Pat, daughters Brigid Martin, Mary Chambers and Kate Sheehy, sons-in-law Paul, Peter and Gerard, daughters-in-law Denise and Martina, her grandchildren Evelyn, Lian, Lisa, Katie, Ellen, Sinéad, Niamh, Jimmy, Kenneth, Tommy, Edmond, Alan, Peter, Tom, Jack, Paudie, Jack and Gearóid, great-grandchildren Tiernan, Seán, Charlie, Clara, Anna, Tom, James, Kate, Ben, Luke, Aibhinn, Brian, Zach and Tomás, nieces, nephews, extended family, her neighbours and dear friends and colleagues of Touraneena Parish Council.

Heartfelt condolences have been left on RIP.ie. from those who knew and fondly remembered Kitty, with one mourner writing,

"Sincere condolences to the Cullinan family. In March 2023 on occasion of the centenary of the historic IRA Army Council meeting at Bleantis, a group of descendants of Sean Dowling (who took part in that famous meeting) visited the area. Kitty welcomed us at her home and recounted the history to us. She was a remarkable woman and we felt very honoured to have met her. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam."

Another wrote, 

"Sincere condolence Cullinane Tobin families on the sad passing of an outstanding lady Kitty. May Kitty rest in peace."

While another wrote,

"Deepest sympathies to the Cullinan family on the passing of Kitty. A lovely lady. Always a pleasure to meet. May Kitty rest in peace."

Funeral Arrangements

Kitty will be reposing at The Kiely Funeral Home, Dungarvan on Wednesday evening, August 21, from 4pm with prayers at 6.45pm followed by removal to St. Mary's Church, Touraneena arriving at 8pm.

Requiem Mass at 11am on Thursday morning, August 22. Interment afterwards in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Kilbrien.
