Staff and listeners to WLR, the most-listened to radio station in Waterford, are celebrating after it was named Local Radio Station of the Year at the 2024 IMRO Awards.

The radio station, which broadcasts across the city and county, won the prestigious accolade at a gala awards ceremony which took place in Kilkenny at the weekend.

The annual awards, which are hotly-contested, are regarded as the Oscars of the radio industry in Ireland.

“This award is an incredible honour,” said Michael Byrne, CEO of WLR following the ceremony.

“It reflects the passion and dedication of our entire team who work tirelessly to provide Waterford listeners with top-tier content every single day. We’re deeply grateful to the IMRO judges for this recognition, and of course, to our listeners and commercial partners, who are at the heart of everything we do,” he added.

The award wasn't the only one picked up by WLR at the weekend.

Aoibhin Fallon’s ‘Waterford In Action’ series was awarded Gold in the inaugural Sustainability category.

The groundbreaking series, which was funded by Coimisiún na Meán, delves into key environmental and community-driven sustainability initiatives across county Waterford.
