Waterford musician and artist Chris Falconer, who performs under the name 'Waiting Space', has written a song based on his love and appreciation of his native county.
The song, titled ‘Geography, History', came about following an interview Chris gave about Waterford in 2022 for the RTÉ Radio 1 documentary series, ‘The County Measure’.
The series follows broadcaster Vincent Woods as he travels Ireland exploring county identity under the themes of arts, culture, community, history, music, and sport.
In addition to the main interview episodes, the series has added 'The County Measure - Extra' episodes, where they have a song, or a piece of writing created for each county by local artists.
Chris was invited back this year, to compose a piece of music inspired by Waterford, having been commissioned by the national broadcaster to do so.

When sitting down to compose the song, Chris found it difficult to describe just how much Waterford means for him.
He felt he could not undergo this task without giving reference to both the geography of County Waterford, and also to the history of Waterford City, with it being the country's oldest city.
And so, in line with its title, the song has two halves: a piano/vocal lead the first section, with lyrics emoting the geography of Waterford’s coastline, in particular, what it can feel like to look out from the coastline in the seaside town of Tramore.
In the second half of the song, a more electronic sound comes, with lyrics focusing on Waterford history, referencing to the Viking and Norman periods in Waterford City itself.
While the song is currently only on RTÉ Radio 1's website, 'The County Measure' is also available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
'Geography, History' will be released by RTÉ on those platforms soon.
