Jim Meade, Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann presents Garry Keane and Victor Fox with their award (Paul McCarthy was not in attendance)
The contribution of a number of Iarnród Éireann workers in Waterford was recognised at the company's Customer Experience awards for 2024.
Nominations for the awards typically just come from co-workers, but this year also featured a new award up for grabs, 'The People’s Choice Award', where nominations came from customers.
The awards, which celebrated their second year this year, recognise excellence in all aspects of service that is provided to rail customers in Waterford and across the country.
Local worker Victor Fox was a finalist in the in station category. He is very highly thought of by his colleagues and customers alike with his nomination stating: “Victor has a great way with customers and is always willing to go the extra mile to help out. Victor makes a point of proactively engaging with customers on a daily basis and deliver a high standard of customer service on every occasion”.
Two other Waterford-based workers - Garry Keane and Paul McCarthy - were finalists in the 'Customer Experience Initiative of the Year' category.
Involved with the installation of a customer information point at Plunkett station in Waterford city, the well thought out initiative is both simple and effective.

Garry and Paul’s nominator stated: "With everything going online, and technology being so important, face to face interaction with our customers is still in demand at the right moments. The delivery of this initiative offers the opportunity to proactively engage with customers and support them in the best possible way.”
Speaking at the awards event, Jim Meade, CEO of Iarnród Éireann, said: “One of Iarnród Éireann’s core values is, customers at the heart of our Business. All nominees and winners here today truly espouse that value and you should be very proud of the excellent way you serve our customers”
The awards took place at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.
