Met Éireann says strong and gusty winds can be expected overnight

A status yellow wind warning for Waterford is set to come into effect this Sunday night as Storm Herminia tracks past Ireland.

The warning, issued by Met Éireann, is valid from 11pm until 9am on Monday.

It also applies to Counties Cork and Kerry and, according to the national forecaster, "strong and gusty winds" can be expected.

Potential impacts include further damage being caused to already weakened structures and trees following Storm Éowyn which wreaked havoc in Waterford and across the country on Thursday night and Friday.

Motorists are being urged to exercise vigilance while the latest warning is in place as travelling conditions could also be dangerous at times, particularly overnight and early on Monday morning.

According to the latest Met Éireann forecast, It will be a blustery day on Monday with further spells of rain or showers, possibly heavy at times.

"There'll be some dry and bright spells too, mainly in the afternoon. Fresh and gusty southerly winds will ease and become variable for a time and will then become fresh to strong northwesterly during the evening. Highs of 6 to 10 degrees," states the forecast.
