Sadness in Waterford following sudden death of popular man who 'left a mark on everyone he met'

It is with great sadness to announce the death of popular Waterford man Philip (Philly) Lavery, who passed away suddenly but peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

Philly, late of St Anthony's, 2 Lacken Road, Kilbarry and formerly of Pearse Park, Waterford, will be remembered by all who knew him as one of life's true gentleman, who always a smile and chat for everyone he met and an adoring family man.

He is predeceased by his parents Philip and Margaret.

Deeply regretted and forever missed by his heartbroken wife Bridie, his loving and much loved children Sarah Jane and Philly and their partners Brian and Kelsey.

Philly will be forever missed by his adoring granddaughter Pippa and her Dad P.J., he will be fondly remembered by his sisters Eileen and Maureen, brothers Myles, Tosh and Noel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and many friends.

Heartfelt condolences have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Philly, particularly those who had worked alongside him in Waterford Crystal throughout the years.

One mourner said,

"Sincere Condolence to Bridie, Sarah Jane, Philip, Pippa, Philly Brothers, Sisters, and extended family, forever in my thoughts and prayers, thinking of you all at this very sad time. Many a good laugh we had in the glass. May Philly gentle soul rest in eternal peace."

Another said, 

"My sincere sympathy to the family & extended families. Philly R.I.P. was a lovely man with a twinkling in his eye,a quick word and always a pleasure to meet. I know his spirit will always be with us."

While another wrote,

"So sorry to hear of the sad and sudden passing of Philly. One of nature’s finest and kindest gentlemen you could have the pleasure of meeting. You left every encounter feeling the better for time no matter how brief or long you spent with Philly.
Thinking of and sending our heartfelt sympathies to Bridie, Sarah-Jane, Philip and Pippa at this very sad time."

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing at his residence (X91 P2K3) today (Saturday) from 4pm to 7pm. Requiem Mass tomorrow (Sunday) at 2:30pm in the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly. Immediately afterwards Philly will be laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery, Ballygunner.

Philly's funeral cortege will walk from Pearse Park at 2:15pm on Sunday for Mass on arrival at 2:30pm.
