Special film screening free for the public to be held in Waterford to celebrate May Day
A special film screening of the documentary 'Rent Strike' will be held in Waterford City this Thursday evening to mark May Day and International Workers' Day.
Community Action Tenants Union Waterford (CATU) and Waterford Council of Trade Unions are hosting the screening at St Patrick's Gateway Centre on Thursday at 7.30pm. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
The film documents the increasing tenant resistance movement in Ireland and highlights the concerns of renters surrounding unjust evictions, rising rents and housing insecurity.

A spokesperson for CATU Waterford commented: "This is more than just a film. It’s a powerful reminder that real change comes from the ground up. We hope this screening will spark important conversations in Waterford about housing, workers' rights, and collective action."
The event hopes to mark the day by celebrating grassroots organisations amid the ongoing housing crisis in Ireland. People will also have the opportunity to engage in a post-screening discussion about the issues in Ireland at the moment in a local context.
