Waterford has been awarded more than €125,000 in funding for new community vehicles, a boost that is set to deliver vital services to people across the county.

The funding, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary, forms part of a €1.7 million national allocation under the CLÁR Programme.

Minister of State and Waterford TD Mary Butler welcomed the move, describing it as "a real difference" for local communities.

"I am delighted to welcome funding of €125,938 under the CLÁR Programme for Waterford. Funding for community vehicles is essential in ensuring people can access day centres, medical services, and transport to cancer treatment. This funding will make a real difference to those who rely on such services," she said.

In Waterford, the Order of Malta Ireland, County Unit, will receive €75,938, while the Irish Red Cross in County Waterford has been allocated €50,000.

Minister Butler said the funding would play a vital role in supporting groups such as first responders, Meals on Wheels, and search and rescue services, which she described as "exceptionally important" in the community.

"Community vehicles are crucial for many people, providing greater mobility, independence, and access to essential services such as cancer treatment and day care. This investment is most welcome, particularly for those with mobility issues," she added.
