Waterford families encouraged to apply for Fuel Allowance ahead of Winter

Families in Waterford are being encouraged to apply for the Fuel Allowance ahead of Winter bringing increased energy costs. 

The Fuel Allowance is a means tested payment that is paid for 28 weeks. 

The payment is made at the weekly rate of €33 or if preferred, in two payments of €462 each.

It is designed to help families with the increased cost of heating a home that the Winter brings. 

Over 410,000 households across the country are eligible for the payments.

You can qualify for Fuel Allowance if you are aged 70 or over or getting certain long-term social welfare payments.

Only one Fuel Allowance is payable per household.

If you have been granted the Allowance in the past and your circumstances have not changed, you do not need to re-apply.

It is available for people from now until April.

“As the winter season begins, I will continue to work with Government to ensure that supports such as the Fuel Allowance are strengthened for people in Waterford particularly due to rising energy costs," Minister of Housing, John Cummins, said. 

The easiest way to apply for the Fuel Allowance is through MyWelfare.ie.
