Boil Water Notice hits Waterford homes as Uisce Éireann issues urgent health warning

A Boil Water Notice has been issued affecting households across parts of Clonmel and neighbouring areas of Waterford, with thousands of residents now being urged to boil their water before drinking.

Uisce Éireann confirmed that the notice, which impacts approximately 11,000 customers on the Glenary Public Water Supply, was put in place following consultation with the HSE.

The utility stated that the move was necessary due to "operational issues" at the Glenary Water Treatment Plant, which have impacted treatment.

Among the areas impacted are parts of Clonmel town centre, Cashel Road, Cahir Road, the Ring Road, and the Kilcomma and Finger Post areas of Co Waterford.

Pierce Faherty of Uisce Éireann said public health was the "number one priority".

"We regret any inconvenience caused for impacted customers. The notice has been put in place to protect the health of customers on the Glenary Public Water Supply. We are working to lift the notice as quickly and as safely as possible."

Residents are advised to boil water for drinking, brushing teeth, preparing salads, or making ice. Water can still be used for bathing and flushing toilets. Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann will receive direct updates.

Households can check if their property is included by visiting the water quality section on water.ie, or by calling Uisce Éireann's 24/7 helpline on 1800 278 278.

The notice will remain in place until testing confirms it is safe to lift.
