A Waterford nurse has been named as a finalist for the Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards, which celebrates the country's excellence in nursing home care. 

Shauna Morrissey, a nurse at Killure Bridge Nursing Home on the Airport Road has been shortlisted in the General Awards category. 

Shauna has been a nurse there since 2020, specialising in palliative and end-of-life care.

She recently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Gerontology at University College Cork, further enhancing her expertise in caring for older people.

Shauna is recognised for her empathetic communication with residents, their families and the multidisciplinary team, ensuring that each resident receives person-centred, dignified care.

"We are incredibly proud to recognise Shauna Morrissey as a finalist for the NHI Care Awards. This nomination reflects not only her personal dedication and skill, but also the exceptional standard of care being delivered in Waterford and across Ireland's nursing home sector," Tadgh Daly, CEO of Nursing Homes Ireland, said.

Last year, Shauna was part of a group from the Killure Bridge Nursing Home that won at the awards last year. 

They were recognised for their "unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of residents." 

The NHI Care Awards, held in association with Homecare Medical, recognise exceptional care being provided across Ireland's 440+ nursing homes, which support over 27,000 residents nationwide.

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 6th in the Round Room, Mansion House, in Dublin.
