Almost €1 million allocated to Waterford villages to improve outdoor recreational facilities

Almost €1 million in funding has been allocated to three Waterford villages under the Outdoor Recreation and Infrastructure Scheme.

It was announced on Monday by Minister John Cummins. 

€893,711 in total has been allocated to Cappoquin, Villierstown, and Dunmore East.

"This offers significant economic and social benefits for our rural communities in Waterford, giving families a variety of activities that are easily accessible, low cost and on their doorstep. Anyone who has ever been to Waterford knows just how fortunate we are to have so many places of natural beauty," Minister Cummins said.

The funding provided aims to make amenities in these local villages even more enjoyable places to visit.

€493,454 has been allocated to the Cappoquin Railway Bridge Loop Walk. 

Work will commence of phase two of this project which will involve works on the slipway to viaduct viewing point and the Cappoquin Rowing Club grounds to Avonmore Bridge.

€200,000 has been allocated to upgrading Dunmore East's Coastal Walk between Portally Cove and Ballymacaw Cove. 

Another €200,000 has been allocated to Villierstown to enhance the Quay there and to facilitate water-based recreational activities.

Funding like this contributes to making all parts of Waterford better places to live, work and raise a family," Minister Cummins concluded.
