Residents of Ferrybank in Waterford city have raised concerns after a shop closure left the area without an ATM.
Fianna Fáil councillor Eamon Quinlan spoke on the issue during the November Metropolitan District meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
Cllr Quinlan said: “With the closure of its Spar, there is now no on-street ATM anywhere in Ferrybank that I’m aware of.
“It’s a townland of 6,000 people that spans the north of Waterford city and southern County Kilkenny and there’s not a single ATM machine.”
Cllr Quinlan said he had been contacted by a number of residents in relation to the issue.

“Could our Economic, Development and Enterprise Department perhaps reach out to various banks or financial institutions to try and source a location to put in an ATM machine?”, he asked.
In response to Cllr Quinlan, Director of Services Michael Quinn said: “We can certainly raise that. It’s not something we have a remit in but we can certainly draw attention to it.”
Ferrybank has been the subject of much debate in recent weeks, amid Waterford City and County Council's decision to take legal action against Kilkenny County Council over the Ferrybank Shopping Centre.
Cllr Quinlan said previously that people in Ferrybank are “furious” over the council’s decision to take legal action and proposed that the local authority seeks mediation instead.
