Cllr Adam Wyse and the mine in question
A World War II mine that was on display for years in Waterford city appears to have gone missing.
Metropolitan Mayor of Waterford, Cllr Adam Wyse, raised the issue during the November Metropolitan District meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
Cllr Wyse said: “Where is Waterford’s mine? We had a World War II mine on the Quay next to the Clock Tower for years and years.
“It was taken away when the works were done but now that the plaza is nearly finished, can we find that mine?
“We should know where it is - it would be quite dangerous to not know where it is,” Cllr Wyse joked.

The Fianna Fáil councillor suggested that the mine be reinstated once works on the South Quays are completed.
He continued: “I’d like to see that when people are coming over the new sustainable transport bridge that that mine would be there explaining the history of what these were used for in Waterford.
“They were used to protect our river from people coming over that were not welcome. So I’d look into where that actually is.
“I’ve asked around a few different people and we can’t seem to find it, so that sounds dodgy enough to me,” he concluded.
No member of the council executive provided an answer to Cllr Wyse’s query at the meeting.
