Met Eireann has issued a nationwide status yellow weather warning as temperatures drop significantly with snow and sleet predicted for some areas

Status yellow ice warning set in place for Waterford amid 'treacherous conditions'

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow ice warning for Waterford and the rest of the country as temperatures drop to below freezing.

A weather warning for low temperature/ice has been issued for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Munster, Galway, Roscommon with temperatures falling to between -1 and -3 degrees nationwide.

This will bring sharp frost, icy stretches and black ice and is set to come into affect from 11am Monday 5 January until 9am Tuesday 6 January.

People are being warned of treacherous travel conditions during this time and are advised to remain extra cautious.

For Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Met Éireann has issued a status yellow snow and ice warning ahead of wintry showers with sleet and some snow accumulations.

There will also be sharp frost and ice also causing hazardous travel conditions and poor visibility in these areas.

This weather warning is also valid from 11am Monday January 5th until 9am Tuesday January 6th.
