Dog wardens are on patrol in County Waterford amid hundreds of complaints over the past year.

A new report from Waterford City and County Council found that there were 160 complaints made in relation to dog control in the Dungarvan/Lismore area alone last year.

The Environment Directorate Report was distributed to councillors ahead of the January meeting of the Dungarvan/Lismore municipal district.

It found that complaints in relation to dogs were up 59 per cent from a total of 104 in 2024. Meanwhile, there were a total of 392 similarly reported cases in the Waterford metropolitan area in 2025.

Waterford City and County Council says it is responding to Customer Relationship Management (CRM) complaints and the collection of stray dogs across the county.

Dog wardens have carried out patrols and licence checks in a number of locations in the west of the county. These areas include Cruachan, Ballinroad, Garranbane, Waters Edge and Knockinore.

CRM complaints can refer to aggressive or dangerous dogs, dog attacks or bites, excessive barking, fouling and dogs off-lead.

Reports can also be made in cases of stray or abandoned dogs or where there are welfare concerns.

Waterford City and County Council has reiterated that its dog wardens will continue to monitor dog issues throughout the county.
