Gardaí in Waterford have issued a warning to the public following the resurgence of an old scam.
According to gardaí, the culprit will ring or text the person they are trying to scam by pretending to be from the bank.
From here, the scammer will then say there's an issue with the bank card and go on to ask for classified details. These can include your date of birth, home address and the card’s pin number.

Then, the culprit tends to say they will send a taxi to collect the card to save you a trip to the bank.
Gardaí confirmed that this scam is used to target older and more vulnerable citizens.
A spokesperson for An Garda Sochána in the county said on social media: “Discuss this with family and friends who might be duped by this and warn them never to divulge personal data and if in doubt contact the bank directly.”
