A Transport For Ireland (TFI) bike stand in Waterford city is set to be removed in a bid to “help with the flow of traffic” at the location.

In a post on Facebook, Sinn Féin councillor Joeanne Bailey confirmed that the stand on the Park Road is set to be removed.

Cllr Bailey said: “I had requested that these bikes at the park would be removed or moved to another location.

“I am delighted that they are being removed. It might help with the flow of traffic.”

In a further update, she said that the locations of all TFI bike stands in the city are being reviewed.

Cllr Bailey added that while the location near the People’s Park “wasn’t working”, a new location is yet to be decided on.

Reacting to the post in the comments, a number of Waterford locals welcomed the news.

One person commented: “Thank God… whoever signed off on that location should be fired - absolute joke.

“They should have been placed inside the gate of the park with access for after hours and a separate internal gate to the park locked because the excuses before were that the park isn't meant to be open after hours.”

A number of others also suggested that the bikes could be located inside the park.
