Planning permission has been granted for upgrade works to a hockey pitch at a Waterford hockey club, which will see the existing gravel playing surface replaced with an all-weather synthetic pitch.

The application, recently granted by Waterford City and County Council, will see the upgrades carried out at Dungarvan Hockey Club in Dungarvan.

Originally applied for in February of this year, Dungarvan Hockey Club has now been given the go-ahead to proceed with the improvement works.

The works will include the installation of a new drainage system, upgraded base layers and the laying of a modern synthetic playing surface, along with associated line marking and pitch infrastructure.

The upgrade is expected to improve playing conditions and allow for year-round use of the facility. Waterford City and County Council granted planning permission on April 7 for the proposed development to proceed subject to six planning conditions.

Conditions attached to the grant include restrictions on construction hours, with works limited to daytime periods on weekdays and Saturdays, and no activity permitted on Sundays or public holidays.

It also detailed that measures must also be taken to control noise and dust, and to ensure surrounding roads are kept clean during the works.
