Waterford City and County Council has officially adopted its new Arts Plan!

‘Towards 2030’ sets out a clear and ambitious direction for the development of arts across the city and county over the next five years.

The plan reflects a strong commitment to supporting artists, strengthening communities and ensuring that the arts remain central to life in Waterford. It has been shaped through extensive public consultation, with artists, organisations and members of the public contributing their ideas, experiences and priorities.

At its core, ‘Towards 2030’ recognises the arts as both a cultural and economic force, enriching civic life, supporting employment and helping to animate towns and villages across the county.

It is built around five key pillars: Supporting artists, young people and the arts, supporting and promoting excellence, public engagement as well as fostering innovation.

Together, these priorities aim to create a more inclusive, accessible and sustainable arts sector- one that allows creativity to flourish at every level. Waterford already has a strong and vibrant arts ecosystem, with dedicated spaces such as the Gallery of Art and the Old Market House Arts Centre, alongside a wide range of festivals, community groups and creative initiatives.

The new plan builds on this foundation, while also identifying opportunities for growth, collaboration and innovation in the years ahead. The Council will continue to invest in programmes that support artists at all stages of their careers, expand access to the arts for young people and ensure that communities across Waterford can actively participate in cultural life.

‘Towards 2030’ sets out a vision of Waterford as a county of artistic endeavour where creativity is valued, supported and accessible to all.
