RIP: 'What a strong and wonderful woman'- Waterford lady passes away at 95-years-old

Tributes have poured in following the death of a 95-year-old Waterford lady who will be dearly missed by many.

Irene Britton (née Forde) was from Abbey Drive, Abbey Park, Ferrybank, Waterford and formerly Tramore, Waterford

She passed away on Wednesday 15th April 2026 peacefully in her 96th year in the tender care of her loving family and all the staff in The South East Palliative Care Centre, Oak Ward, University Hospital Waterford, predeceased by her sons Edward and Gary and son-in-law John.

Irene will be sadly missed by her sons Robert, John, Jeffrey and Peter, daughters Sandra and Debbie, son-in-law Greg, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Irene, with one mourner writing,

"Peter and family, I'm so sorry to hear the sad news. Your Mam was a lovely lady and she will be missed .Free now from all pain may she rest in the arms of Jesus."

Another message said, "Irene you will be missed. What a strong and wonderful woman. I am so grateful I got to meet and care for her. Condolences to all of the family at this very sad time".

"Our sympathy to Rene’s family. Such a lovely independent woman, always had a smile. Rest in peace Rene," another person said.
