Revenue officers seize over 20,000 cigarettes from residential premises in Waterford

Revenue officers have seized over 20,000 cigarettes from a residential premises in Waterford. 

Almost 23,000 cigarettes and 0.8kg of 'roll your own' tobacco were seized by officers yesterday (December 19) as a result of an intelligence-led operation. 

The tobacco and cigarettes, bearing Polish tax stamps, were discovered following the search under warrant and have a combined retail value of more than €18,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €14,500. 

A Polish man in his 40s was questioned. 

Separately on Sunday (December 18) as a result of routine operations and with the assistance of detector dog Enzo, Revenue officers seized 6.2kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €124,000 at Dublin Airport. 

The illegal drugs were discovered concealed in parcels described as ‘shoes’, that had arrived in air cargo consignments from the United States and Spain and were destined for addresses in Counties Dublin and Kilkenny.

Investigations into both seizures are ongoing. 

These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and smuggling.
