Met Éireann has predicted a 24C sun blast for Ireland but there is a major caveat in their latest weather forecast amid hopes of a heatwave for Ireland.

Forecasters have predicted a 27C heatwave for Ireland next week but Met Éireann forecasters are less optimistic as they predict "unsettled conditions with rain or showers at times and temperatures around normal for the time of year" beyond next week.

In the meantime, we will enjoy some sunny days, especially next Monday.

For Friday, they say: "Mostly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle. More persistent outbreaks of rain in the west will spread eastwards over the country, reaching the east coast early this afternoon. A clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers will follow from the west later today. Highest temperatures 14 to 18 degrees with moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty, southerly winds veering westerly and moderating as the rain clears.

"Any lingering rain and drizzle will clear eastwards early tonight [Friday] and it will become mainly dry with clear spells and just a few showers in the west. Lowest temperatures 7 to 10 degrees in light southwesterly breezes.

"Sunny spells in the east at first on Saturday, but cloudier conditions in the west will gradually extend eastwards through the morning and early afternoon along with patchy light rain and drizzle. Brighter and drier intervals will spread from the west during the evening. Highest temperatures 16 to 21 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds."

The forecast continues: "Mainly dry Saturday night with clear spells and isolated light showers. Lowest temperatures 10 to 12 degrees in light westerly breezes.

"Sunny spells on Sunday and staying mainly dry. Highest temperatures 18 to 23 degrees in mostly light southwesterly or variable breezes.

"Sunday night highest temperatures aren't expected to fall below 12 to 14 degrees and it will stay mainly dry.

"A warm day on Monday with sunny spells. A few showers will likely develop in the afternoon. Highest temperatures 20 to 24 degrees generally in light southerly breezes."

The weather starts to turn after that with Met Éireann saying "Tuesday will be slightly cooler with temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees with light winds. There are likely to be some heavy showers, merging to longer spells of rain in the west.

"The further outlook through the midweek period is for unsettled conditions with rain or showers at times and temperatures around normal for the time of year."
