Met Éireann issues latest weather update ahead of bank holiday weekend

We're in for some changeable weather this bank holiday weekend according to Met Éireann's latest forecast.

In a welcome change, Friday was off to a bright and dry start across the country. However, it will turn cloudier in parts of the west towards the evening time. Highest temperatures on Friday will reach from 7 to 10 degrees.

Then some light rain and mist is expected to creep into the southwest and west on Friday night, although it should remain dry everywhere else. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees are expected early on Friday night in the east, but the temperatures will not fall below 5 to 9 degrees further west.

Saturday

Saturday will start out mostly cloudy with some scattered patches of rain along with some hill and coastal mist and fog. The day will see some dry weather though, particularly in north Leinster and east Ulster where it may remain dry the entire day. Temperatures will reach 9 to 12 degrees.

The dry weather will eventually end on Saturday night with a band of rain pushing in from the Atlantic and gradually extending across the country. This rain should clear in the western half of the country before dawn on Sunday. Temperatures will dip as low as 3 to 7 degrees with fresh and gusty southerly winds.

Sunday

The wet weather will clear quickly on Sunday morning and a dry and bright day is expected across the country. There will be some good spells of hazy sunshine, however it will become overcast in the northwest later in the day. Highest temperatures will range from 7 to 10 degrees in moderate to fresh winds.

Sunday night will stay mostly dry with the chance of light rain in Atlantic coastal areas. Lowest temperatures will reach from 3 to 6 degrees in the east and then slightly warmer in the west with 7 to 10 degrees.

Monday

Unfortunately, Monday is expected to be wetter. It will be a breezy day with outbreaks of rain pushing in from the Atlantic affecting the west and northwest. The rest of the country should remain mostly dry apart from some showers here and there. A warmer day on Monday with temperatures reaching 10 to 12 degrees.

On Monday night, outbreaks of rain will extend eastwards across the country which may turn heavy, particularly in the south. Temperatures will fall between 5 and 8 degrees with strong southerly winds.
