Fingers crossed! Above average temperatures expected for St Patrick's Bank Holiday weekend
Hope remains intact for a pleasant long weekend next week for St Patrick's Day as Met Éireann has predicted 'higher than average' temperatures.
The extended monthly forecast says that from Monday, 10 March to Sunday, 16 March a northeasterly airflow is expected over Ireland with high pressure slowly moving near Iceland, keeping low pressure systems to the south and southeast.
Unfortunately for any Irish tourists in Spain and Portugal, this low system looks set to bring a lot of rain to the popular sunny destinations this week - especially in the south near Malaga and Marbella.
High pressure to the North of Ireland next week but the exact location of it will decide how much of the colder air we see. It will also keep the rain going South of us into Portugal and Spain. pic.twitter.com/wpvEQ2sDyr

Then the following week, kicking off on St Patrick's Day, will see more settled weather develop and that high pressure in the north keeping the low pressure south. The national forecaster added that we can expect "slightly higher than average" temperatures and rainfall "near or below normal."

It looks like that settled weather might be set to continue into the last week of March as that high pressure dominates. The above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall could also remain.
With March typically being an unpredictable month for weather, let's keep the hope alive that this year's St Patrick's Day will be a dry and sunny one!
