More sun on the way but there is a twist coming according to Met Éireann's latest update

As Ireland enjoyed the warmest day of the year so far on Sunday, Met Éireann has forecasted more sunny spells for the week ahead, however there is a change on the way.

This week should see more sunny spells brightening up the country, although temperatures are expected to dip as the week progresses. The national forecaster has even warned that some parts could experience wintry showers midweek.

Here is the full forecast for the days ahead.

Sunday night will enjoy more clear spells with some mist and fog patches occurring in some areas. However, cloud will build up through the night bringing some patchy drizzle to northwestern counties. Lowest temperatures will range from 3 to 7 degrees.

Monday will have more sunny spells, although more cloud is expected. There'll also be some light rain in places, but thankfully it will be a dry day overall. Highest temperatures will reach between 8 and 15 degrees, with north Ulster experiencing the colder weather.

Monday night will be another dry night with more clear spells. Cloud and drizzle may linger for some time near southern coastal counties. Temperatures will dip as low as -1 to +4 degrees with some frost.

More sunny spells are due on Tuesday, however temperatures will fall considerably to between 5 and 8 degrees. It will also remain dry.

Tuesday night will bring more clear spells and some scattered showers in northern areas which will eventually move southwards. These showers could turn wintry in parts, particularly in areas of high ground. Lowest temperatures will range from 0 to 4 degrees.

Wednesday will have some sunny spells although scattered showers, possibly of hail, are expected. These showers could also turn wintry in some parts of the east and north. Like Tuesday, temperatures will range between 5 and 8 degrees.

Wednesday night will be mostly dry although more wintry showers are expected in the east. It will be a cold night with some frost.

The further outlook suggests more dry weather is expected towards the end of the week, with little changes to temperatures. For now, next Bank Holiday weekend is looking dry and sunny.
