Met Éireann is predicting a blast of heat from Europe sweeping over Ireland next week but not all is at it seems with the 22C temperatures.

Parts of Europe are currently baking in temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees and Ireland looks like getting a little taste of it. Sunseekers are eagerly watching weather forecasts for a return to the mini heatwave conditions we enjoyed in May, but there is bad news on that front.

In their latest outlook for our weather, Met Éireann has said it looks like "gradually becoming milder and more humid" but that it will continue "changeable."

Its forecast for Saturday reads: "Quite cloudy at first this afternoon with scattered showers, some of which will be heavy. Sunny spells will slowly develop with showers becoming isolated this evening. Cool with highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in moderate northwest winds.

"Dry at first tonight [Saturday] with clear spells. Later in the night, scattered showers will spread across the country from the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees in a light westerly breeze."

Met Éireann's Sunday forecast is similarly mixed: "Sunday will bring sunny spells and scattered showers. Once again, the showers will ease through the evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.

"Sunday night will be mainly dry with clear spells and just well scattered showers. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with light to moderate southwest breezes."

The forecast continues into next week with Wednesday earmarked as the day temperatures above 20 degrees arrive.

"Much of Monday will be mainly dry with a good deal of cloud and occasional drizzle. The best of any sunny spells will be in southern counties. More persistent rain and drizzle will develop in parts of Ulster and north Connacht later in the day. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees with moderate westerly winds. On Monday night, there'll be further outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees with moderate southwest winds.

"Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees with light to moderate westerly or variable breezes. Tuesday night will be mild and mostly cloudy with lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

"Wednesday will be a warm, humid and mostly cloudy day with a fair amount of dry weather and some rain or drizzle in places. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 or 22 degrees with moderate south to southeast winds.

"Thursday and Friday will bring mixed weather with rain or showers at times and temperatures in the mid to high teens." It appears even with an upturn in temperatures, we can expect it to be accompanied by rain and drizzle, perhaps consigning the BBQs to the shed for another few weeks.
