IRELAND WEATHER: Heavy rain expected for most of today

Broadly cloudy this morning with patchy rain and drizzle in parts of the north and east. Persistent rain will spread across Leinster and east Ulster through the morning and afternoon, turning heavy at times before clearing in the evening.

A drier day further west with sunny spells, but scattered showers will develop in the afternoon, with localised heavy or thundery downpours. Highs of 14 to 17 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong for a time on western coasts.

Early tonight heavy scattered showers will spread across the country from the southwest, with some thundery downpours possible in western areas.

The showers will clear northeastwards by morning, leaving a largely dry and clear end to the night. Breezy or blustery with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong at times on western coasts. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Pollen forecast

Low on Tuesday. Moderate on Wednesday.
