Andrei Kanchelskis as Derry City manager?

Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis has applied to be the new manager of Derry City.

The Russian, who was part of Alex Ferguson's double winning squad of 1994, has made his interest know to the Brandywell club in recent days.

With Paul Hegarty taking on the role as caretaker manager at Derry following the departure of Peter Hutton, there is uncertainty over just who will be manager at the club next season.

But a spokesman for the club admitted that Kanchelskis was one of a number of interested parties.
