A judge at Derry Magistrate's Court has said that anyone speeding in excess of 100mph will face an immediate disqualification.
District Judge Barney McElholm's comments came as he dealt with the case of Niall Rodney McMullan (50) of Ballyrobin Road in Antrim who was detected at a speed of 101mph on the A6 on August 8.
A defence Barrister said his client accepted his speed was excessive and it had just 'crept up'.
He said McMullan travelled in excess of 50,000 miles per year and added it was 'critical' he retained his licence.
Judge McElholm said the message had to out that a speed in excess of 100mph was 'totally unacceptable '.
He said speed could creep up from 30 to 35 but not to more than 100mph no matter how good the road is.
He said speeds of 100mph plus would face a disqualification.
McMullan was disqualified for four weeks and fined £300.
