Apology issued to Mid-Ulster children who received incorrect Transfer Test results

The Post Primary Transfer Consortium has apologised to 34 primary seven pupils from Mid-Ulster who received incorrect Transfer Test results last month.

The body, which investigated the cause of the mix-up, say that the error was human and was not found before the results were sent out because there were not enough checks in place to find the error.

The pupils affected had sat the entrance exam for Rainey Endowed Grammar School in Magherafelt (pictured).

Among those children affected by the mix-up was MLA Sandra Overend’s 11 year-old son Joshua.

Mrs Overend, who is the Ulster Unionist Spokesperson for Children and Young people, has welcomed the response from the PPTC.

“I demanded answers and explanations so that confidence could be restored in this process, and with the response I have now received I believe they have.  Lessons are to be learned from this event and thankfully the response from the Chair of the PPTC is positive, thorough and addresses all the misgivings that arose on 1st February,” she said.

“GL have assured me that they have now put in place a range of measures to ensure that this mistake does not reoccur.   I welcome the PPTC’s response, and particularly welcome their assurances that this error will not occur again.”
