A Derry judge has issued a warning that in future people who do not turn up for their court appearance without a medical reason will face an arrest warrant.

District Judge Barney McElholm was speaking in the case of Shay O'Hara (25) of Rinmore Drive who was due in court today in relation to a series of driving offences that were said to have occurred on September 15.

The court was told that there was no explanation for the defendants non appearance.

Judge McElholm said that more and more people seemed to feel that they don't have to appear.

He said that in future anyone not appearing when they were supposed to would face an arrest warrant.
