Attack on family home had ‘potential to kill’ says Chivers
Police in Limavady are appealing for witnesses following an incident in which an object was left at the front door of a property at Limestone Road shortly after 2am this morning.
Chief Inspector Catherine Magee said: “Local police officers responded to a call from a householder who reported that an object had been left at the front door and caught fire. The victim extinguished the object with water before prior to the arrival of police and firefighters. "Damage was caused to the front door however no one was injured," said Inspector McKee.
Sinn Féin Councillor, Brenda Chivers has said that she is relieved no one was killed or seriously injured in the incident.
She said:“The attack on a family home last night had the potential to either kill or injure the family in the house and we are fortunate that the fire was caught and extinguished early. “I would appeal to anyone who is involved in this incident to take a step back and realise that they could have been looking at a long time in prison if this fire had have caught hold. “These type of attacks need to stop and I would appeal for anyone who has information to bring it forward to the PSNI,” she said. Police would like to speak to anyone who was in Limestone Road in Limavady around that time and saw or heard anything suspicious to contact them on 101. Or if someone would like to pass information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
