Author and historian Dr David Hume to give talk in Draperstown.

The talk will take place on Tuesday March 4 at 8pm in the Workspace Community Hub in Draperstown.
Do you believe in ghosts? Author and historian, Dr David Hume, didn’t give much thought to ghosts until the day one appeared
beside him on an historic battlefield in South Carolina. Now he is not so sure. David is a published author of several historical
studies and has delivered talks and lectures to groups throughout Northern Ireland and in England, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and the USA. He has become very well known in recent years due to his appearances in “The Long and the Short of it” series on BBC television alongside comedian Tim McGarry, the long one!
Ballinascreen Historical Society is greatly honoured that David will be delivering the March talk on Tuesday 4th March at 8pm in the Workspace Community Hub in Draperstown. This is an open event and everyone is welcome to attend.
Superstitions were once supremely strong in Ulster and this talk examines many of the beliefs of a bygone era as well as exploring their origins. Participants will also learn about the background of bogies, fairies, “blinking” of cattle, banshees, death folklore and other beliefs. Material from the 19 th century will be referenced as will the literary remains of our superstitions. For added value there will be a few scary stories involving witches, ghosts and strange goings on! Everyone is invited to what should be a most interesting evening.
