Bail refused for Derry teen charged with curfew breach

19-year-old missed curfew just 36 hours after release for serious weapon and assault charges.
A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with breaching his bail for a period of almost 20 days.
Cianan Ryan (19) of Rosses Gate in Derry was released on bail by the High Court on May 30.
A police officer told the court that the defendant was released on May 30 for what he described as 'serious offences' including assaulting and resisting police and possessing an offensive weapon.
The officer told the court that the bail breach was a breach of curfew after the defendant lasted a day and a half on bail before missing his curfew.
The court heard that Ryan remained at large for almost twenty days in breach of his curfew despite police calling out to his address on numerous occasions and on one occasion being told that Ryan 'was just not back yet'.
Bail was opposed due to the risk of breaching bail.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said this man had no record or any dealings with the police before these charges.
She said he was not flouting his bail conditions to commit further offences but was afraid after he breached his curfew initially and had been 'sofa surfing' since then.
Bail was refused and Ryan will appear again on July 9.
