Cheyenne Campbell (18) of Mount Street in Derry appeared charged with breaching her bail and a charge of criminal damage relating to her electronic tag

A young woman has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today accused of cutting off her electronic tag after a judge said she had been given a chance.

Cheyenne Campbell (18) of Mount Street in Derry appeared charged with breaching her bail and a charge of criminal damage relating to her tag.

Campbell admitted the criminal damage charge but a police officer opposed bail on the grounds she was likely to commit further offences.

The officer said that Campbell had failed to comply with bail conditions and had breached bail several times since the start of April.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had taken a drink and decided 'it was a good idea to cut off her tag.'

He said that the defendant realised that she was 'close to custody'.

The solicitor said that the defendant's offending was linked to her bail conditions.

He said that she was unlikely to receive a custodial sentence in this case.

Deputy District Judge Alan White said he had given Campbell a chance last week and revoked her bail and remanded her in custody to appear again on June 6.
